I've been looking a lot at my "white privilege" and thinking about reparations for African Americans. I got in a discussion about this with a young Black man at the gas station. He agreed that the violence isn't new; it's just now more public. I told him I felt our government owes reparations, but it needs to also happen on a personal level. So I paid for his gas, and we hugged. (I wish I had taken a selfie of us.)
