My apartment community is a smaller one. We have 2 maintenance men who work here. One, named Eric, and I have gotten to know each other the years I have lived here. We share stories about our children (his oldest just graduated from Harvard), pray for and uplift each other, and wave hi as we pass each other on the road in and out. A couple of years ago, Eric had brain surgery to remove a tumor. Money was tight on his family that Christmas. I bought giant Christmas stockings for his three children still at home and filled them with toys and candies and coins, and surprised him with them. There were tears in his eyes and he thanked me immensely. However, it was my way of thanking him for working hard around here and being such a dear person to all who meet him. He is doing wonderfully now and is completely recovered.
