My husband is the most caring and thoughtful man I have ever met, it was one of the main reasons I fell in love with him. He is always thinking about how we can brighten someone else's day, even if that is just buying a cup of coffee or taking time to have a chat with people. I could literally add 30 stories of things he has done for other people but I think the most touching thing we have done was last Christmas.
Between us we don't make a huge amount of money so we like to do homemade stuff for Christmas, things like cookies or cakes, sometimes knitted stuff or candy. Last year we decided we would make fudge. Once we had boxed up fudge for our friends and family we had not even used half the fudge we had made. We didn't want it to go to waste so we bagged up all the fudge we had left and thought about what to do with it. My husband had the wonderful idea of taking it round to people who had to work on Christmas Day so after we had exchanged gifts with our families, we went off on an adventure!
We dropped bags of fudge to two A&E departments (Emergency Rooms for our US friends), two fire stations, a police station, an all night garage and an ambulance station. We had a few stunned reactions but it meant so much to them and us to take the time to bless people.
I think that in this ever increasing busy world we live in, time is becoming more of a luxury and I believe that one of the best things we can do is give up our time for somebody. We try now to at least once a month do a load of baking and just drop it round to people we know are having a rough time.
