My next door neighbor is 85 years old and lives by herself. We see each other once in a while on the street, but I hadn't seen or spoken to her in about a month. Yesterday, I made a big batch of butternut squash soup and brought her some. I also brought her some apples from a recent trip to the apple orchard. She warmly welcomed me in and we talked for about 15 minutes. I learned that I hadn't seen her lately because she was having leg problems and is due for surgery. She seemed so delighted to have a visitor and some treats. She said, "I know you work all the time, this is so thoughtful of you!"
I'm going to try and make bigger batches of food when I make dinner in the next couple of weeks, so I can have some extras to bring to her. I do the same thing for my neighbor across the street who is 93 and lives by herself(!) I'm baking cookies on Wednesday and I'll be sure to set some aside for both of them.
