I'm a young single mom with full custody of my three-year-old son. In talking with friends about parenting, I mentioned sometimes feeling frustrated about not being able to do the things most people my age do - go out with friends, grab a drink after work, etc. On the spot they insisted on having my son (who has never slept through a night in his life) over for a sleepover, and implored me to sleep in as late as I wanted the next morning. I almost cried - a true act of kindness, from the heart, from people acting in such a big way to be part of my and my son's village.
