Not really litter but another walking opportunity to model kindness: when my kids and I see an earthworm struggling on the sidewalk, we pick it up or scoot it onto some dirt under a plant. If it is the worm's time, then maybe not much has changed. But if it is not its time, then maybe it has a better chance to survive off hard pavement. When my kids, 8 and 11, do this, they say to me: "I saved a worm's life." Good for the worm, good for the soil, and a shared moment of kindness walking with the kids.
